Eve's Stats

On the 23rd Eve had her well child exam. These are her stats:
Weight: 20 lbs
Height: 29 7/8 inches
Head Circumference: 47 cm

She is growing up so fast!

Grandpa and Grandma Hall

Saturday we drove in to see my Grandpa and Grandma Hall. They were in town to spend the holidays with my Uncle Carl and gave me a call so we could get together. It was a lot of fun for Eve to meet them. She really loved my grandpa. She spent most of our visit sitting on his lap while he fed her gummy bears. Grandma Hall made her a cute little blanket for her baby and she loves it. Now she has to have her blanket with her baby at all times.

We went out to lunch with them at Milano's, a place close to Carl's work. It was fun to visit with family and fun to see Eve interact with them.

Helping Out

The Christmas tree has been surrounded by a gate since it went up. This meant that Eve thoroughly enjoyed putting things in the gate; meaning she found a toy hand, a screwdriver, and something else in one of her gift bags. It was hilarious to watch. It was also fun to see what she did after the gate came down for the presents.

Once the presents were opened that gave her time to focus on the tree. She decided right away that the ornaments had to go off the tree and that she really loved the extremely large strand of beads. So she "helped" take these things off the tree. Once most of the ornaments at her level were off the tree she decided maybe they needed to go back on it. She also put those beads around her neck a million times and didn't quite know what to do about them being so darn long!

Opening Presents

Luckily Eve's birthday is before Christmas. On her birthday she didn't quite get the concept of opening presents; but she caught on enough to really understand by Christmas. She was thrilled to be able to open loads of presents and of course it took forever to open them because each one must be played with before another one is opened. She really seemed to enjoy it. Everyone showered her with gifts so she has quite the supply of toys (not that she was lacking in the first place). We got her the kitchen set, we will see how she feels about it later but right now there are just too many other things to hold her interest. She loaded up with: Elmo Chatters, a jack-in-the-box, links, a telephone, a dog, a shape sorter, Weebles and clothes. I am sure I am forgetting presents at the moment but those are just a few of the ones that I have been finding homes for so they are fresh in my mind.

Anica helped her open presents while I tried to take pictures. She had a blast playing with the toys and thought everyone would just enjoy watching her.

It was a fun Christmas. We were happy to be with family and hear from our family too.

Birthday Fun

Eve really seemed to enjoy her birthday! We were so pleased that she loved her baby so much. She had to give it kisses and feed it her food, it was so cute. She had fun opening presents... sometimes so excited about one present that we couldn't get her interested in opening any other presents.

She also loved her cupcake. It was hilarious to see her chow down on it!!

Happy Birthdays!!

So today is a busy day at our house; we have two birthdays to celebrate. Ian is 25! Eve turns 1!

First I want to say happy birthday to Ian. He is an amazing husband to me and a fantastic father to Eve. I hope that this year his birthday is a little better for him than last year. There are so many qualities that I admire about him: he is patient, loving, and determined.

Next I want to wish a happy birthday to Eve!! I can't believe my little baby girl is already one. It is amazing how much can happen in one year. Exactly one year ago at 3 in the morning my water broke, and at 11:47 pm she was delivered. I think the most rewarding part was seeing Ian hold Eve when they brought me back to the room after stitching me up. Ian was beaming and so excited to introduce our daughter to me; he is so in love with her. It only seems fitting that they share a birthday. So happy birthday to the two loves of my life.

I will post pictures later.

Good Times

Here is a picture of Eve loving a "baby". This doll is just a few inches smaller than her. It is too big for her to carry so she drags it around. She gasps anytime she starts to let her fall and lets her down gently. Aunty Anica will love to see that Eve loves the doll that looks just like her!

Today while I was on the treadmill Eve decided it was time to head off to the office. She got her messenger bag all ready and everything. She got it around her neck all on her own. It is so funny!

Living in Alaska

Most of the time I love living in Alaska. Right now I hate it! I hate trying to get all the Christmas packages and everyone claims that Alaska mail can take up to a month. I don't live in the bush... I live so close to Anchorage it's ridiculous!!

I have spent the last month fighting about Eve's birthday present. I ordered it plenty early and then they said it could take up to a month; when a month passed they said the tracking (which they never gave me) said it had been here 3 weeks ago. They so kindly sent it again and then just today it was returned because the retards at the post office can't recognize the EXACT same address that another package we actually received today was addressed to. So I am mad. I got a refund on that one... and am trying another vendor... luckily this vendor is much less expensive so it may work out to my advantage.

So we are waiting for a few more packages that we ordered. Strangely the only ones that are ever refused are those shipped from a company... packages from family always show up. Sometimes I wish that we lived in a place where we could get everything we need without relying on ordering things. It will be even worse in Ketchikan ... but in Ketchikan we never had the problem with the post office just randomly sending back packages. Here's hoping everything else gets here! Poor Eve won't get her super cool discovery dome until after Christmas, but she won't know the difference.

Oh Baby

Eve is in love with baby dolls, in truth they don't have to be baby dolls, anything she can hold up to her and pat on the back works for her. I think it is the cutest thing ever. If we are in a store and see a little tiny real baby she will hold up her hands like she is pretending she is really holding the baby and pat it on the back.

So this weekend we were browsing through Toys R Us and I see a little Cabbage Patch newborn. I asked Ian if we could PLEASE get it for her (she already has a little tiny maybe 3 inch tall baby; this one is a bit bigger). When he asked me what it was for I went for the first occasion coming up, her birthday!! If that hadn't worked there is always Christmas!! So we have her little baby wrapped up under the tree. I can't wait to see her with it. She was patting the box and making the oh sound to calm the baby already!! Sometimes she is just too cute.

Busy Week

This week was finals week for Ian. That meant that we stayed extra busy around here. We are so relieved that he is done and gets to have an entire month off from school. Eve will love having Daddy around to play with because playing with me every day has to get old.

Eve loves grabbing onto our clothes. She likes me to put on Ian's hat and she could be entertained for quite a while with me putting it on and she taking it off. The other day Ian left his shirt on the couch and she brought it to me, so I put it on her. It was so funny because it made her look SO tiny!! Then she got into the outdoor clothes and grabbed my hat so I put it on too. Nothing is more fun than things that aren't supposed to be toys.

Eve also loves Christmas lights. She got a her hands on these while Grandpa Al was testing them to put up in the stairway. It is so funny to see her with the Christmas stuff. She loves putting her snakes in the cage that the Christmas tree is in (a baby gate is around the Christmas tree). Yesterday she didn't limit it to just her snakes, all the toys that she could find went to the Christmas tree.

The Worm

Eve is really picking up some dance moves from Ian. She dropped down on the floor today and did this all on her own. It was adorable!

My Weekend Project

Eve's toys have been driving me nuts! They seem to multiply daily and once I think that I have toy storage figured out once again I have to get a new container for the toys. This weekend I decided that I was going to make cute containers for her toys because I was sick of clear containers that I just wanted hidden away. So Ian helped me with these vegetable bins and I think that they are pretty cute. The project took longer than I thought because it had to be paused every time Eve woke up, but I think that it turned out pretty well. The bins don't look too babyish either so they can stick around for a while.

A side note about Eve is that you notice something yellow on her neck in one of the pictures. She is in love with this bag of snakes. She wanders around with snakes all of the time. I think my mom would just scream to see it because even though they are rubber snakes they still would freak her out. Eve loves them and thinks that we would all enjoy having snakes underneath the Christmas tree; she puts them there and we pull them back out.

Yummy Leftovers!!

I just had to post this picture because I love it so much! Eve loved the leftover pumpkin pie as you can tell in this picture.

Hanging with her pals

This evening Eve was winding down from a busy day by hanging with her good pals Frosty and Santa. She has been playing with Frosty for weeks. He lights up and sings Frosty the Snowman while dancing. She loves dancing around with Frosty. She is a little less accepting of Santa. As long as he is lighting up and singing she doesn't want anything to do with him. I think it's pretty hilarious.

Eve did have a busy day to wind down from. Today we made the big trip into Anchorage. She loved it!! Ian had to turn in an assignment and we thought we would make a family day out of it. We went to Burlington and bought a baby gate, got my Christmas present from Ian picked out, went to Michaels, went to lunch, and finally got to wander around Costco. It was lots of fun!! Eve loves all the people so she didn't want to head home. I am glad that she had a good time; I did too.

What happened to my alarm clock?

Usually Eve serves as an alarm clock, waking me up sometime between 6 and 7. This morning I thought I was crazy because I felt so awake. I finally decided to get out of bed (thinking it was 4 in the morning or something) and it was almost eight!! It was so funny. I decided to wake her up because otherwise... who knows. It was so funny she rolled over and smiled at me and was so happy. It was so cute!!! I am sure this is just a one time thing. Tomorrow I will be waking up to a babbling baby, maybe even earlier to make up for her sleeping in today.

Playing in the Snow

I did get my wish for it to warm up and snow for Thanksgiving!! So on Wednesday we took Eve out in the snow. She is so funny outside. She doesn't know quite where to go so she just stands in one place smiling. Ian likes to get her to eat snow. She loves it. He built her into a little mound of snow and she was content to just sit in it and eat snow. I can't believe how much she likes being out there. I wish it was always warm enough to go play out in the snow because it makes her so happy; and it is rare that she stands in one place and isn't running around at super speed.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Eve really enjoyed her first Thanksgiving. The thing I think she enjoyed the most was the endless snacking leading up to dinner. She didn't actually eat the turkey... it wasn't done when she had reached her waiting limit. She got the best parts for kids though. I think she ate almost an entire can of olives (some of them off of her fingers). She also enjoyed pumpkin pie and the cool whip on top of it. We also gave her some sparkling cider which she loved. It was lots of fun.

Ian baked us a raspberry meringue pie which was delicious. When we got to impatient waiting for dinner we had dessert before dinner. It was great!!

Since it is Thanksgiving I think that I should post a few things that I am thankful for.
I am thankful for:
- my family.
-Ian woke up with Eve this morning so actually feel rested.
-Ian is almost done with school.
-we can live with Kim and Al while Ian finishes school.
-I have a nice warm bed to crawl into as soon as I get off the computer and head on to bed.

Hope everyone enjoyed their feasts today!!

Holiday Fun

Last year I didn't plan things very well so I missed out on getting much done for Christmas. I just kept on planning for Eve coming and forgot that Christmas comes in December too. This year I am determined not to let Christmas sneak up on me again.

So I have been getting ready for Christmas for months. Eve's big present has been down in the basement for over a month already. I know that is kinda crazy but last year I didn't even have a Christmas present of any kind for her. By the time we got home from the hospital on the 23rd of December I wasn't up to shopping for anything other than the necessary items (diapers and more diapers).

This year I have Ian's birthday and Christmas present purchased already, just waiting for them to arrive in the mail. I was so together this year that I also ordered Christmas photo cards; I am just waiting for them to arrive so I can ship them out. As I already mentioned I have Eve's Christmas present waiting downstairs and I have her birthday present in the mail. I ordered my mom's gift ,and knowing if I shipped it to me and then her she would be likely to get it around her birthday (February), I shipped it straight to her.

I am sure there are things that I am forgetting. I know what I am going to get my brother, just have to get that done. Overall I feel like I am much more prepared than last year. Hopefully I don't forget anything too important.

Copy Cat

I think it is so hilarious when Eve copies the things we do. Right now she is wandering around the living room with a wipe cleaning various things: her play phone, daddy's face, the cupboard, the stroller. She is getting to the point where it seems like all she does is copy what we do. Yesterday I was eating soup and blowing on it to cool it off, this prompted her to blow on her food to cool it off too. So silly! It makes me so much more aware of what I do knowing that she is copying me.

Bundled Up!

Eve has decided to be a copy cat. Yesterday I got out my winter scarves because it is too cold to go without them. Eve decided that if I was wearing a scarf she should be wearing a scarf. All day long she was trailing the scarf along. It was so cute!!

Baby it's cold outside!!

It is oh so cold outside all of a sudden. Last week pretty much every day Eve would get all bundled up and we would go play outside. I think that no matter how much clothing she is wearing going out to play in the snow isn't a option when it is below zero. So now she is sad. She points outside wanting me to take her to play in the snow... but it is just too cold. It hurts to breathe outside now. Maybe it will warm up again soon. I think it is best to go outside when there is fresh snow.

So here's hoping that we get a big heat wave here and it warms up enough to snow. Wouldn't it be great to have a nice snowy Thanksgiving?

A good week

So right now Al and Kim are on vacation so we have the house to ourselves (mostly). It is kind of fun just having our little family in the house; though don't get me wrong it would be awesome to have someone around so that they can "watch" Eve after bedtime so we can get out of the house by ourselves. Or really watch Eve at any time so that we could get alone time. This weekend me and Eve had the house all to ourselves on Saturday because Ian went out snowboarding. It was like one of those little kid Saturdays; I didn't worry about getting anything done except for playing with Eve. It was so relaxing!!!

When Ian was getting ready to go snowboarding he got out his backpack that has a camelbak. Eve loves drinking water out of it. Right now is it still on the couch with water in it so that she can drink it. Ian jokes that if we were smart we would hang one down from the ceiling in her bedroom so she could have water handy all night long. It would be like the water dispenser for a gerbil... It just cracks me up!!

Yesterday was probably the worst day we have had in a while. You forget how much you hate those nights when the baby wakes up in the middle of the night a million times until you get one of those again. (Stupid teeth). Eve just wouldn't have it. By five she wasn't going back to sleep no matter what. She just wanted to cry and cry and cry for two hours straight and then go back to sleep. I forget how thankful I am that she rarely cries anymore. Luckily I got a morning nap and though our schedule was off she was a generally happy girl the rest of the day. Happy enough to make herself a clown face at lunchtime!!!

Then last night Ian was awesome, he took Eve the one time she woke up and I got to sleep through the night. I forgot what it felt like. It was so nice not to have to get up once after getting into bed. It was better than I ever dreamed it would be.

Sharing

I know when I was little I wasn't that fond of sharing; if I had something I wanted it to be mine. I remember some of us siblings going to great measures so things stayed in his or her possesion. (Angela licking her plate, fork, anything at her place on the table). Food was especially important; everyone had to back off food. I remember the sharing song "if I had a piece of cake and you didn't have one I would tear it into half and give a piece to you" In truth this would only happen in real life if mom was standing right there making us prove what good sharers we were.

Well Eve seems to have no problem sharing her food. It started out sharing her food with Mom, or Dad, or maybe even Grandma Kim. Well now she has decided that the dog needs to be shared with; and not just by dropping food on the floor for her to eat. She thinks she needs to take a more active role in the sharing. She will take her food right over to the dog and hold it there while Hailey eats it. It is so sweet!! Luckily Hailey is a gentle dog and so patient. I only wish she wouldn't want to give ALL of her snack to the dog. I feel like such a witch sometimes... yelling at the dog to stay out of the room while Eve eats; or telling Eve that she can't share her food with the dog. Those poor little friends.

Daddy is an Inchworm!

Ian really had Eve laughing tonight. He was laying next to her while I was trying to change her diaper and he was inching around the floor and she thought it was hilarious. So I let her be a bare bottomed girl so I could get a video of her laughing at Ian.

I swore there was some ketchup in here...

It has been a while since Eve discovered cupboards and drawers but after locking up a few of them she ignores most of them. Well she decided that it was time to break into this cabinet and see how big of a mess she could make. In this picture it doesn't look too bad... but there was an oil spill and a barbecue sauce spill. She thought it was a blast though. So of course now we will have to lock up the cabinet unless we want to clean up the messes every day, several times a day.

Someone's in the Kitchen with Grandma

This past weekend Eve helped out in the kitchen. I don't know why I hadn't thought about involving her in the cooking before... but she loved it. First she helped Grandma make Chex Mix and then she helped make 7 batches of cookies. She couldn't be happier standing on the chair with her measuring cups and some snacks!

Destruct-o-bot Strikes Again

Today while we were eating lunch Eve brought me a Made in China sticker. Immediately I was suspicious; since when would she bring me the sticker instead of eating it? So then I spy with my little eye an empty pot; we had just planted a seed in it to grow a little tree and daddy had left it in baby reach. She had so kindly taken up the job of emptying the pot so that she could have a nice pot to play with. She did attempt to eat some dirt from the pot... if I would have paid more attention when she first handed me the sticker I would have seen the tell tale dirt mustache. Once picked up with the pot she dropped the pot and it shattered. So she did a good job of utterly destroying something today... but at least she didn't eat that Made in China sticker. Have to count my blessings huh?

Busy Girl

About a month ago Eve was wandering around the living room and just popped this ball into her mouth... it was hilarious. Of course we couldn't get the camera out and get a picture of it. Even now I missed catching it at the time when it is in her mouth all the way but it is still cute to think of.

Bubbles!!

Ian is the best dad ever!! He gave Eve the super bubble bath today. What fun!!

Little Lovebug

Eve is dressed up as a ladybug for Halloween. The feet say love bug on them. It is so cute; and nice and warm. We took her to Grandma Kim's work, a school, today. She got to see a bunch of kids. I don't know if we will do anything else but we will see.

Pretty much every day Eve and I watch Ellen together and her favorite part, since she was ity bity, is the dancing. Today she was dancing along with me and it was so cute!! We got her to dance some more. So here is the cute dancing ladybug.

Cabin Fever

We have had a little bit of cabin fever lately. Eve doesn't like going a few days without going out of the house. Today she was going crazy!! Part of the problem is that she is growing out of her baby toys and we need to get her new ones. We are working on that. Other than that she is just a social girl.

Today she tried out the treadmill, tried getting out the stroller, breaking out the window, and fixing things around the house. She is ready to go out of her mind, and so am I. It is just too cold to go outside and if we go out too much during the day it just messes with nap time. So for now hopefully she can enjoy the new toys we bought her and look forward to nicer weather... and more time on the treadmill.

The Great Pumpkin Eater

Tonight we carved pumpkins. It was loads of fun... Eve enjoyed eating the pumpkin slime. It was hilarious; she just kept on shoving it in her mouth!!!

Enjoying the Cold

I am sure that all parents decide to take their 10 month old children out in the snow for the first time when it is 24 degrees outside. Ian decided he wanted to do it yesterday; we decided that just her winter coat wasn't enough.
So today grandma came home with a snowsuit... it came with a coat too... so we put on her mismatched winter gear... her little pink boots, her funky hat, and her fancy mittens and took her right out the door to go sledding. Okay Ian took her to do that. I was designated camera man.

Eve didn't really know what to think about it. Once Ian sent her down by herself. She did pretty well until she fell down face first. She didn't even cry. She just seemed surprised. All this fun probably lasted 10 minutes. She was getting a little red in the face so Ian brought her inside.

Cheese Face

So for the past week or so Eve has developed this goofy grin. She does it all of the time and I haven't been able to get it on camera. Today was the day!!! The one eye toothy smile... gotta love it.

Play Time!!

Yesterday Eve was very busy at playtime. She talked on the phone, took piggy for a walk in the stroller, and had a fashion show for her beads. By the end of the day she was exhausted; and who can blame her?

Thursday, October 23, 2008

What's in my cup?

Eve thinks that open cups are awesome; they are way better than sippy cups. Occasionally I give her one. The other day when I gave her one with a little bit of water in it she dumped the water out and then put all of her lunch inside the cup.

Now when she is wandering around with a snack she will find my water glass and deposit her treasures in my cup. So I have had to learn to inspect my cup before drinking from it. No one likes cracker water.

Good video of Eve walking across the living room without deciding crawling was a faster way to get to the camera.

Nice Necklace

So today Eve totally cracked me up!!! She is obsessed with necklaces; and her necklace is currently lost in the basement which means to her it is gone forever!! I didn't even think about it until I showered today.

I take her in the bathroom so I can shower (which happens some days when other things keep me busy during nap time). I put the trash up and out of reach, make sure that the toilet lid is closed so that she doesn't get potty arm and leave the two drawers open that she likes to play with (even when I bring toys in the bathroom she doesn't like to play with them).

As I am showering I peek out to see what trouble my little tornado is getting into (how much clean up will be required after I get out of the shower). Well I saw she was playing with my clothes. I thought well that will be the easiest clean up ever!!! Then I peek out again and she has put my underwear around her neck; a nice replacement necklace!!! I was laughing so hard!! Then she has to come check on me to see why I am laughing and laugh along with me. It was so funny!! So here is a picture of Eve with her small mess in the bathroom today because she found herself a new necklace.

House Fun

Yesterday while we were doing laundry we put Eve up in the dryer. She enjoyed being up there in her little nest. It was so cute.

Friday we had her 9 month well child exam. These are her stats:
18 lbs 5 oz
28 1/2 inches long
46 cm head circumference

Loving Daddy

The other day when Ian came home Eve was so excited to see him. She wanted to play and give him kisses. It was so cute!! She currently is in the habit of giving kisses with tongue. This makes getting love from her a messy business.

She is turning into such a girly girl. You see in this picture she is wearing her beads... she wears them all of the time; and loves them. She also is enjoying everyone's purses. She loves to drag them around. It is funny to watch.

Eve's New Quilt

I have been working on this quilt off and on for a while now. It is finally done!! I love the little sheep on the quilt; and Eve loves anything that has red on it so we both win. It feels good to finish a project.

Loving Animals

Today Eve was having a blast with the animals. She was petting the dog... and trying to do the same to the cat; the dog is much more patient than the cat.

She was busy walking too. She decided to take a bunch more steps; she is feeling more confident. She walked across the room. She does really well when she doesn't concentrate on what she is doing. I can't believe how fast she is moving from just taking a few steps and then walking a lot more.

Eve Walking

It is harder than it seems to capture Eve walking. We missed a bunch of good ones but we did catch a few steps here. Hope you enjoy.

Baby Steps

I just had to do a quick post to say that Eve took her first steps tonight while I was making dinner. She was sitting on the floor all by herself and stood up and took four steps to look at the baby in the oven. It was so cute!!

Pretty Pony

Eve loves the horse. It sings this annoying song "I'm a little pony" I hear it in my sleep!! She gets to excited to ride the pony and she doesn't even need help getting off the pony.

Grandma's Helper

Eve gets so excited when Grandma Kim starts doing dishes! She loves climbing right in and "helping" her out.

Enjoying Home Life

So since we got back from Ohio I don't think we have left the house more than twice and that was only to make a quick run to the grocery store. It is kinda nice being at home; though Eve would probably prefer to be a world traveler so we have to come up with other things to entertain her. While we were at Angela's Eve got to play with their busy ball popper. It was way more fun than it sounds and so of course we had to buy one and I think that she would love to just have the music going all day long; she plays them like she the dj for the house. It is so cute.

She has also decided now is the time to get into trouble. It seems while we were gone she grew a few inches... because all the places which were baby safe when we left are not safe places to keep things out of her reach anymore. To add to this problem she has also discovered that the wipe container is the perfect little step stool enabling her to get a few more inches to make the task of keeping things out of her reach nearly impossible.

Other exciting things going on around here is the appearance of new TEETH. It seems Eve got a 4-5 for the price of one coupon on teeth. So now she has 3 on bottom (looks like one more is going to appear there) and 4 coming in on top. She will look like Count Dracula though because her top teeth are not the front and center ones but the next two on either side... what a crazy girl!! So we have been enjoying a teething baby who is also sick with a cold. Nothing else would make me happier than spending all of my time locked up in the house with a sick teething baby. Actually she isn't that bad... as usual she remains a relatively cheerful baby! I will try to post pictures of her teeth when she decides to stop screaming every time I try to determine how much progress she has made on cutting those little suckers.

Ohio Trip

We got back from Ohio last night. We were lucky enough to make our quick connections and make it all the way back to Anchorage no problems. Eve was a dream baby on the plane; she played quietly and didn't cry. I was relieved because I didn't think I could handle it if she was too bad.

We had lots of fun in Ohio. Eve loves other kids. Angela jokes that we need to adopt a 2 year old for Eve to follow around. She just loved following Abrianna around. It was hilarious. Abrianna alternated between loving the cute baby and viewing her as a competitor. It was fun to watch. By the end of the trip Eve had learned to fight back; which was perfect. Now she is wandering around the house noting the lack of action.

We got to enjoy nice weather; even being early fall it was warmer than our Alaskan summer. We are happy that Angela and Jeremy shared their home with us for a while. It was fun to be in the middle of the mix of kids!

Young's Dairy

So Angela took us to Young's Dairy the other day while Alex was at school. It was tons of fun; probably more for the mom's than for the kids. Eve and Abrianna were scared to death of the goats... they were screaming. After getting out of her stroller Abrianna was a little more welcome to the idea of the goats and even waved goodbye to them. The goats were pretty tricky; one of them tried to eat Alice's bag... it was hilarious.

The other attraction was birdzilla; this turkey was nuts!!! It had every kid that went by screaming!! It was just like birdzilla off of Homeward Bound... that that is what we called it. It was fun to see how our girls were so scared by the farm animals since we were raised around farm animals and would have seen that as a normal day.

Happy Money Day!

For years Ian and I have been celebrating money day (the day that the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend is paid out). Of course we have always been poor college students; so our money day celebration has been more along the lines of splurging and going out to eat together. Right now I am in Ohio visiting my sister so we are spending money day apart. We will have to put the money day celebration on hold. I just had to post this to wish all those Alaskans out there a happy money day!!! (Especially my husband!)

Losing My Mind

So if I didn't have a little sister checking up on me I think I would have no idea what is going on. Alice called me today to check to see when I am heading to Angela's. I could swear that I was going there on the 8th, but luckily I emailed the flight information to Angela and on her calendar she has it written down as the 5th and Alice recognized the difference between the our schedules. Of course I was the one who had it wrong; I think this is just further evidence that I am losing my mind. I can just imagine Angela going the airport late at night her time waiting and waiting and waiting and finally calling my cell phone, only to discover I am at home giving Eve a bath swearing up and down that I don't go to her house until Monday.

The good news is that the weekend has been great!! We get a little extension to our weekend because Ian doesn't have class tomorrow either. I have been loving having him home for the long weekend; I got to quilt and do things during the day (when I am usually busy all by myself with Eve) I feel liberated!!!

Now I have to focus on getting packed for Angela's. I thought that I had a whole week to worry about it but for some reason Friday seems much sooner than a whole week from now so I am going to have to get down to business. It should be fun!! We are looking forward to Eve having a chance to play with her cousins!! I think she will love it because she loves kids, or anyone who will pay attention to her.

One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater

So when Eve was 2 months old she got thrush, actually we got thrush. It was miserable. Well this past week she has been acting strange and all of a sudden those little all too familiar white spots showed up in her mouth. Luckily I wasn't in pain so I didn't think that it was thrush so we had to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Well the doctor says it's a really bad case of thrush. I want to cry. I feel like thrush is my enemy; I hate it. I will become obsessed with killing it. Everything has to be cleaned so that once we get rid of thrush it doesn't come back. Did I mention I hate thrush.

On the positive side we have successfully treated it before. So the doctor recommends the same treatment this time. I have to say that there is nothing more amusing that a little girl with a purple mouth!!! She looks like a clown, or like she has been sucking on a purple marker. It really makes me smile so I thought I should share some pictures of the purple people eater.

Goodbye Summer

We had a blast in Ketchikan this summer! Eve got to be spoiled by Grandma Mil, Aunt Alice, and Uncle Andrew. Aunt Alice bought her the lion walker she is pushing around. She got to dress up like a mini-tourist... those from Ketchikan can appreciate that. I got to do some crafts with mom; one of the crafts was figuring out how to make bows. Eve loved all the attention and I loved all the help. We miss everyone!!!

Daddy's Little Girl

When Eve was born she was a total daddy's girl; if I wasn't her sole source of food she would have happily gone off into the sunset with Ian and left mommy at the hospital. You can see that in this picture from when she was just a few weeks old that she still loved daddy most. Eventually she decided that since I was the sole source of food that I came before daddy on the love scale; this was a sad day for Ian. Recently she has decided that once again she is a daddy's girl. She goes to sleep for him easier, loves to play with him, and once again would happily leave me out of her life.

Ian is thrilled!! Secretly I am too!! It is a relief to be able to do things around the house without her crawling around crying looking for me. It is sad for me too. Mostly because Ian is at school or commuting to school most of the time so she is left with second-rate mommy which doesn't make her happy.

Mushroom Hunting

So Ian loves mushrooms and mushroom hunting so he decided to take Eve mushroom hunting this afternoon. You can see that they found a big one, of course we can't eat it, (it's an amanita muscaria, which is poisonous) but it's so pretty. Eve wanted to touch it so bad!!

End of Summer

So we made our pilgrimage back up North and got back in Wasilla late last night. We are so relieved to be settling back in somewhere where we will be for a while. We have only one more trip left for this year and then we will all be a relieved to be done with traveling for a while.
